A LITTLE MATH BEFORE YOU LOAD

Make room for
your next idea.

Explore a memory budget for local AI on your Mac. Bring your own runtime estimate and see how each assumption shapes the range.

Planning estimate only. Positive headroom does not guarantee a model will run or perform well.

YOUR ASSUMPTIONS

Start with what you know

Enter an estimated runtime memory amount from your own research or measurements. Add any extra context/cache and an OS and app reserve, then choose an uncertainty band.

SHOW THE WORK

See the range and the terms

Memory Room displays the low, base and high totals, then compares them with installed memory when you provide it. Blank installed memory leaves the comparison out.

A CLEAR BOUNDARY

Disk size is not a RAM estimate

A model download occupies disk space. It is not used in this RAM calculation, and this tool does not infer runtime needs from a model name or file size.

BROWSER SIDE

No account or saved scenario

The calculator runs in your browser tab. Values are not saved or sent to a service. Opening one of the cited sources contacts that source provider.

How the range is formed

Base = runtime estimate + context/cache reserve + OS/app reserve. The low and high values apply your uncertainty percentage to that base. Read the formula explanation for the full terms.

Use it as a planning aid

Actual memory use depends on a runtime, model, settings and other activity that this tool does not measure. Review the estimate limitations and the source boundaries before drawing conclusions.
